Ruby Napier Obituary

Ruby C. Napier, 95 years old, entered life eternal on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

She was born in Yerkes, Kentucky on May 25, 1927 to Daniel Couch and Maude (Campbell) Couch. She was the fifth of fourteen children.

Ruby married Frank, the love of her life, in 1946 and was a loving wife for 58 years. Frank proceeded her in death in 2004. They were blessed with four children: Frank Napier Jr (Donna), Globe AZ; Larry Napier (Barbara), Benson AZ; Pat Harris (Steve-deceased), Benson AZ; Penelope Napier, Benson AZ. She was a wonderful “Granny” to 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Ruby is also survived by one sister, Imogene Milam of Cleveland, GA and one brother, Kenneth Couch (Pauline) of Bonnyman, KY and numerous nieces and nephews.

In 1960, the family left the mountains of eastern Kentucky to make a home in Arizona. Ruby came to love the desert out west and spent the rest of her life in Arizona. Throughout their marriage, Ruby & Frank moved numerous times, including a stay in Peru, South America. In retirement, they loved to go fishing on their pontoon boat, and enjoyed camping and some traveling.

Ruby was a homemaker and loved being with her family. She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, collecting bells and helping at her church when she was able. In her earlier years, Ruby always had a garden. As she grew older, she became a puzzle enthusiast and read a great deal. She had read through her Bible several times as well. Ruby loved sitting on her porch watching the deer and birds, and listening to her many windchimes. She was also known for her delicious Banana Pudding, homemade Gingerbread, and Christmas rum balls.

Ruby was a member of Calvary Baptist church in Benson since 2001. Her funeral service was held there on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

Casket bearers were her 6 grandsons: Jonathan Napier, Matthew Harris, Cory Napier, Shane Harris, Sam Napier, and Andrew Napier. Interment was at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, AZ where Frank was also laid to rest.

     Things the children remember:

Mom “let us” do things for her (ie, “I’ll let you carry that for me.”)

She was caught on a ladder in her late 80’s cleaning out a gutter.

She said “shucks” when she was really annoyed.

Mom was a really good listener.

Mom could be feisty & really, really stubborn but also sweet & loving.

She was known for her back slaps when she hugged you.

Mom could say a one-liner out of the blue that would make you laugh every time you thought of it.
