Ramona Lee (Tucker) Smith

Ramona Lee Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 31, 2018. Ramona was born in Baltimore, Md., on Feb. 5, 1954 and moved to Arizona in 1959. Ramona and her family lived in Tucson for a brief time then moved to Tombstone where she completed her elementary education. After moving to Benson in 1969, Ramona graduated from Benson Union High School in 1972.

Ramona was proud of living in Benson for 49 years and deeply touched so many hearts throughout her journey. Ramona dedicated her life to giving and serving others through the strong love she had for people. Her gratitude, kindness and her ability to love and give to others like she did was very rare and recognizable to many in the Benson community.

Ramona was a role model, leader and set the utmost positive example as she worked many jobs in her life. Anyone who knew Ramona recognized and appreciated that she was very dedicated, hardworking and always gave 110 percent. Ramona’s high dedication and hard work propelled her to complete her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing from Cochise College in 1999, and she worked as a Registered Nurse for 17 years.

Ramona loved spending time with her family and friends throughout her life and would always remember the many vacations with her family and close friends. Her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters were the apples of her eye. She couldn’t be more proud!

Ramona is preceded in death by her parents, David and Elizabeth Tucker and her brother, John “Johnny” Tucker. She is survived by her husband, Albert Smith of 26 years; son, James “Jimmy” (Jamie) Barker of Benson and two granddaughters Jennifer and Jessica Barker of Benson. The funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Pomerene Road. Condolences to the family will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at the Cochise Gardens of Rest. Funeral arrangements by Richardson’s Remembrance Center.
