Dec. 15, 1929 – May 3, 2018

Ivan Astle Carling passed away on May 3, 2018 at the age of 88. He was surrounded by his family in his home in Pomerene, Arizona.

Ivan was born on Dec. 15, 1929 in Logan, Utah. He was the third child of 10 born to George Isaac Carling and Clara Pearl Astle. He grew up in Providence, Utah. He learned to work hard on the family acreage. One of the crops he helped raise was green beans, which were sold to Del Monte. Ivan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in the California Mission from 1950 to 1952. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, two months after his mission ended. During his two years in the Army, he was stationed in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Bealls Air Force Base and Edwards Air Force Base in California.

While stationed in Fort Huachuca, he met Joan Fenn and they were married on Dec. 15, 1953. In January 1955 he began working for Mountain State Telephone and Telegraph Company. He was a dedicated employee for 36 years. Joan and Ivan were married for 17 years and had seven children.

On Nov. 4, 1972, he married Eileen Baird. Eileen had six children. On April 8, 1976, Beth was born into this family, making 14 children in all. Together with Eileen, they built one strong family unit.

Ivan held many church callings throughout his life. A few of them include: second counselor in the bishopric in Pomerene Ward from 1977-1981, St. David Stake clerk from 1985-1994 and adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He and Eileen served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City from February 1995 to September 1996.

He spent his time visiting children and grandchildren, growing a garden and woodworking.

His life was one of service to his family and church.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen, four brothers, Darold, Blaine, Lee and Grant, two sisters, Lola Savage and Eva Johnston and 14 children; Deborah Hardy (Doug), Mark Carling (Lind, deceased), Doreen Ray (Lynn), Pamela Wallace (James), Luraly Warner (Brian), Murlyn Carling (Kristi), Jayne Pulsipher (Paul), Jay Carling (Lupita), Stuart Baird (Majorie), Janet McLellan (Andrew), Eric Carling (Thea), Rick Baird (Jo), Todd Carling (Helen) and Beth Carling.
