Floyd Cook Obituary

Floyd Richard Cook, 76, of Pomerene, Arizona passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019.  Floyd was born to Floyd Cook and Mattie Lou Geiger on April 22, 1943 in Mesa, Arizona.  As a child, his family moved quite a bit having lived in Mesa, Lehi, and several places in California.  Floyd graduated from Benson High School as a state champion wrestler.  After high school Floyd moved to Snowflake, Arizona to work for his uncle, Leland Geiger.  It was in Snowflake that he met Eileen Hatch.  Floyd and Eileen were married on November 16, 1963.  They had five children together: Lori, Paula, Floyd Jr., Justin, and Donna; as well as, seventeen grandchildren.  The family lived in Mesa until Eileen was pregnant with Justin.  It was then that the family moved to the house off of Pecos Road in Gilbert.  Floyd and Eileen divorced in 1991 and it was eight years later that he met Shirley Bullock.  Floyd and Shirley met at a church dance.  After a pretty bold complement, Floyd and Shirley hit it off and started dating.  They were married on November 3, 1999.  With his marriage to Shirley, Floyd gained five children along with spouses and 15 grandchildren.  Floyd and Shirley lived in Chandler for almost 10 years before moving to his family property in Pomerene. Over the years Floyd had quite a few jobs.  In the early days he worked at the Snowflake Paper Mill, a dog track, Dana Brothers, a machine shop, and Cardon’s.  Through the many jobs he had, Floyd realized that he preferred working for himself.  Floyd has owned several businesses remodeling houses, roofing, harvesting silage & cutting hay, and spray foam insulation.  Floyd was a jack of all trades and when it comes to building and remodeling, there really wasn’t anything he could not do.  If he didn’t know how to do it, he figured it out.  Those that know Floyd, know that he has never met a stranger.  Floyd loved visiting friends and helping others.  On the day of his passing, Floyd was getting ready so he could go and help a friend with a job that needed to get done.  Floyd is loved and will be missed by many; including his dear wife Shirley and his children and grandchildren.

Floyd is preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers Daniel Cook and Johnny Cook, and his granddaughter Amanda Cook.  He is survived by his wife Shirley, sisters, Betty Johnson, Janetta Biladeau, Anna “Deanie” Freeman, Kelly Dick, and his brother Eddy Cook, his five children and sixteen grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 381 N.
