Paul Rubel Abeyta

Paul Rubel Abeyta passed away on April 23, 2026, peacefully surrounded by his family. 

Paul was born on June 14th, 1947, to Rubel and Ida Abeyta (Popo & Pottsi), he was born and raised in Loveland CO with his 5 sisters.  He graduated from Loveland High in 1965 and after graduation he joined the Marines to serve in Vietnam from 6/2/66 to 5/31/68.

Once he returned from the service, his life was music and family.  He was a guitar player from a very young age playing alongside his dad, perfecting his talent that he would go on to share with the world.  He formed a band in high school, The Meteors, and for every class reunion they would reunite to play all the hits from their era. 

He married Janetha (Jan), the love of his life, in 1975.  They settled down in Loveland, where he spent 20 years painting houses, while entertaining every weekend as Abeyta & James, Northern Special, Silverado or as a solo act.  He opened Abeyta’s Main Street in Berthoud CO in 1996 and for 12 years owned & operated a successful local “watering hole” with Jan & his girls at his side. 

When it came time to retire, he found himself in Arizona where he would live out the rest of his life in a quiet peaceful town. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Rubel & Ida, sisters Virginia and Lynda, brother in-law Gary Brown. 

He is survived by his wife Jan, daughters Candice (Quixote Lara), Ann (Shawn Malouff), and Alicia (Tim Lay), grandchildren Tyler, Danielle & Olivia, great grandchildren Blaine & Brady, sisters Barbara, Nadine (Don Klestinski) & Cindy (Pete Macall) and many nephews & nieces. 

He was a great man who will be missed for his sense of humor, his honor and remembered through his music.
