Jorge "George" Adames Obituary

Remembering the life of Jorge “George” Adames

Jorge Antonio Adames, known by many as “George,” a man who always looked to the stars, died on Saturday, Jan. 31 in his Arizona home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 84.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Jorge came to the U.S. with his brother and their parents in the 1950s, settling in the Bronx, New York.

He enjoyed sports, especially basketball and football, and wholeheartedly embraced science fiction – books, films and television.

Along with his brother, he attended Mt. Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, New York before receiving a bachelor’s degree in business and finance from Curry College.  He would later earn an MBA from Boston College.

For many years he worked in finance and taught at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Vocational Technical College in Nashua (now Nashua Community College), as well as at the University of Arizona at Tucson.

He lived in several towns in Massachusetts before relocating to Bow, New Hampshire and then Sierra Vista, Arizona. He enjoyed living in the desert, with a view of the Huachuca Mountains, the warm weather, the culture, and the friendly people.

An interesting and charismatic person, Jorge made friends easily wherever he went.

He had a deep interest in ancient Roman and Egyptian civilizations and was thrilled to have visited the pyramids and legendary ruins of Egypt.  He loved to travel and had gone back to visit the Dominican Republic as well as to Jerusalem, Paris and, more recently, he visited his younger daughter who lives in London, and his son, who lives in Hawaii.

Jorge leaves three daughters, Ruth Thompson, Tanya Adames Lawrence (Danny), and Noelle Adames (Chris), and a son, Rafael Adames (Kayla). He has eight grandchildren – Jimmy, Sasha (Thomas), Myriah, Ruthie, Isla, Dawson, Jackson, and Ayla, who was born three days after Jorge’s passing.  He also has two great grandchildren, Tommy and RJ.

His circle of family included his ex-wife and good friend, Eileen, and three stepchildren – Adam, Jon and Amber, and their families.

In addition to his only sibling, brother Rafael whom he was very close with and spoke on the phone at least once a day, his wife, Sue, and nieces, Kathy and Christi, Jorge had close ties with his many cousins.

He was a good man with a big heart and will be missed by all who knew him.

His loved ones will celebrate his life privately at a future date.
