Jay Brian Hocking, 82, of Benson, AZ (formerly of Springfield and Auburn) died Monday 29 March 2021 at his home. He was born 8 September 1938 in Auburn, Illinois, the son of Avis Gertrude Wilkins and Frank Wright Hocking. He married Arden Rae Choquet on 10 February 1962.
A long-time resident of the Springfield, Illinois area and a 1956 graduate of Auburn High School, Mr. Hocking was employed by and retired from IBM. After retiring, he worked as a consultant with the State of Illinois. Jay was a long time member of the Auburn American Legion, the Auburn Fire Department Board, and the Route 66 Cruisers. He enjoyed restoring cars, piloting his private airplane, and riding motorcycles. Jay also served in the U.S. Army as an electronics technician in the Signal Corps.
Survivors: daughter, Lesli Choat (Bill), Springfield, IL; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Choat; a brother, Keith Hocking (Ruby), Charleston, SC; a sister, Nancy Hocking, Benson, AZ; and many cousins.
Mr. Hocking was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arden, and one brother, Roger Hocking.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
