Dr. Glen Ray Kartchner, of St. David, Arizona passed away peacefully after 80 wonderful years on April 23rd, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Glen was born on August 28th, 1944, in St. David, Arizona to James and Lois Kartchner. He graduated from The University of Arizona, continuing to Cornell Medical School where he received his MD. He worked as an Emergency Room physician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson for 40 years, retiring in 2013.
Dr. Kartchner lived in St. David most of his life and enjoyed being involved in his community. He served with The Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth. He served 24 years on the School Board, was a 20-year board member of the St. David Volunteer Fire Department, and a 20-year member of the St. David Cemetery Board.
Dr. Kartchner was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At age 19 he served a 2 ½ year mission in Lima, Peru. Later in life he served 4 years as a Temple worker in the Arizona Gila Valley Temple. He also served as a medical missionary in Colorado North, which included ten different missions. He loved helping people and desired to serve God with his life.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Dixie Deane Randall Kartchner, and children; Kerry Lynn Howard, Eldon Kartchner, Tyson Kartchner, Cami Jensen, Tanya Martin, Alma Kartchner, Lucinda Layton, and Angela Salmon, along with 34 beloved grandchildren.
Glen was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His kindness, service, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at the St. David Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Saturday, May 3rd. The viewing will be from 9:00-10:30 am and funeral service 11:00-12:00 pm.
