Donald Buchanan Obituary

Donald Lee Buchanan passed peacefully in Benson Hospital Hospice on July 8, 2024. He was born to Howard and Edna (Berger) Buchanan in Wichita, Kansas on August 19, 1939. He grew up in Mulvane, KS and graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Wichita State University in 1962. He married Marian (Johnson) in 1963. They were married 61 years. They have two children, Howard and Ann (Hayward) and one grandson, Aaron Hayward. Don also had one sister, Sylvia Saenz Gilbert. Don worked at Apache Powder Company 1969 - 1983. Other jobs took them to California, Arkansas and Pennsylvania before finally returning to retire in St. David.

Don's passions included politics. While living in Benson, he was a Republican precinct committeeman, the first vice chairman of the state Republican party, and a Reagan delegate to the 1976 Republican National Convention.

Don also loved to sing. While in Pennsylvania, he was part of the bass section of the Bach and Handel Chorale of Jim Thorpe. He sang in church choirs and when he returned to Benson, he became a member of the Benson Barbershoppers. 

A Celebration of Life for Donald will on November 2, 2024 @ 11:00am at the Benson Community Presbyterian Church, 590 S Huachuca Street, Benson, AZ 85602. In Lieu of flowers a donation in Donald's name would be preferred to the church Donald attended Benson Community Presbyterian Church, and donations can be made by mail to Benson CPC, 590 S Huachuca Street, Benson, AZ 85602, or to Benson Hospital Hospice through TMC Hospice, who took great care of Donald.
