Cheri Ritz Obituary

Cheri Ritz, 72, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Tombstone, Arizona, on March 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of her devoted husband, John, and her cherished dog, Boo Boo.

Born in Long Beach, California, she spent most of her adult life in Southern Arizona. Cheri lived a life full of kindness, generosity, and an infectious enthusiasm for conversation. She had the rare ability to turn any moment into an opportunity for laughter, love, and connection.

A proud mother and loving wife, Cheri dedicated her life to raising her children with faith, resilience, and the confidence to pursue their own paths. She instilled in them a love for God, a passion for education, and the drive to become independent, successful adults with families of their own. Leading by example, she worked hard to earn a double bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix in 1993 at the age of 40, proving that determination and perseverance can open new doors at any stage of life. She was also fluent in sign language and spent several years teaching at a school for the deaf and blind.

Cheri found joy in life’s simple pleasures—karaoke nights at Big Nose Kate’s Saloon in Tombstone, her treasured collection of Disney knick-knacks and jewelry, and, above all, time spent with family. Some of her loved ones' fondest memories were long meals together at Mexican restaurants in Tucson, where stories, laughter, and gifts were shared.

She is survived by her husband, John Ritz; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Elizabeth Skamser; her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Kevin Callahan; and her two brothers, Ronnie and James Layne. Her greatest pride and joy were her seven beloved grandchildren: Audri (17), Keilani (14), Ethan (12), Ariani (12), Malakai (10), Caleb (9), and AJ (2), all of whom she adored beyond words.

Cheri’s passing is a profound loss, but her love, kindness, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She reminded us all that life isn’t about chasing success, wealth, or perfection—it’s about the people we cherish and the love we share. Her legacy is one of compassion, connection, and a reminder to never let disagreements stand in the way of what truly matters.

To honor Cheri’s memory, reach out to your loved ones today. Tell them you love them. Cherish every moment. Because one day, all we will wish for is just a little more time.

Rest in peace, Cheri. You were deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
