Brody Peters Obituary

Brody Allen Peters

January 13, 2010 – February 25, 2025

Brody came into this world on January 13th, 2010. Brody was born in Spearfish, SD to Justin Allen Peters, and Erin Colleen Peters. He arrived 3 weeks early, with big blue eyes and a bushel of hair. Brody left to be with the Lord on February 25, 2025. He was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a student, a teammate, and a friend to all. Brody’s presence in this world was insurmountable to most, and he never even knew it.

Brody was a busy-body always in a hurry. As a baby he went from rolling over to walking at just nine and half months. Brody was curious with everything, always wanting to see and do more. Brody would laugh, smile, and want to explore everywhere. He loved to swing and sit in mom or dad’s lap for hours at the park. You could find him often into grandma’s garden eating raw vegetables like Peter Rabbit. He never liked them cooked.

For years Brody was a little Wyatt Earp in the making. If the sun was up, you could promise to see Brody wearing his cowboy hat, boots, holster and cap gun on his hip and a look ready for a western showdown. Even at 2 years old, you could find him riding his go-cart driving like the Indie 500 down the airport tarmac while dad and grandpa cheered him on.

As Brody grew and his passions expanded he found a love for animals more than most kids his age. Especially his love and affection for his miniature horse, Salty. Salty was a pretty paint, with a distinct white mane. Brody and Salty bonded from the moment his grandparents and Brody snuck Salty into a motel when they brought the baby colt home. He worked hard to train Salty to drive the cart and teach him different trots and canters.

At age 5, Brody competed in horse shows with his family. He put in a lot of time practicing in the big arena to compete in all the different classes. Salty was a great friend to Brody, he’d do anything Brody asked. When Brody’s younger sister started driving horses at 5, he would teach her the traits he learned with a smile on his face, and a twinkle in his eye to help his sister love his passion too. He helped guide and teach her to be great just like him. Hailey adored Brody. They always shared a special bond, and a love for animals. A bond that will be with Hailey forever.

At age 6 Brody qualified his second horse Doc, an appaloosa, to the AMHR Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There he competed in driving, halter, and obstacle classes. Whether his competition was the 12 and younger division, or stepping up to the 18 and under he’d take them head on. During the obstacle class Brody was the only boy amongst 26 girls, all over the age of 14. One of the obstacles was to complete a 360-degree circle, while keeping one of the cart wheels on a 12-inch circle, the entire time. He was only 1 of 5 to complete this obstacle, and he completed the whole course with no faults. Brody took 6th place, and the crowd went wild after he completed his run. He was so proud of that green ribbon, and his family was even prouder. He loved competing with his grandma for years to come until her passing in 2022.

When it came to education Brody first attended Cochise Elementary School through 3rd grade. From there he transferred to Benson Primary School. Whichever school he was at, the teachers loved Brody’s hugs and humor. Brody had a special place in people’s hearts, as he was always Brody and true to himself.

If it wasn’t horses, or motors, Brody had a passion for sports with his father and friends. He started soccer in 4th, and by 5th he started wrestling soon after Covid ended and found a true love for it. He’d work hard at home on his own personal wrestling mat going over skills and techniques with his father to always learn new moves. During off-season Brody and his dad would travel everywhere to compete in different tournaments. They worked hard and built memories. He loved being with his father on a mat, tournament, or anytime. Brody’s mom was his biggest fan in everything he did. He always said he heard her hollering and clapping in the crowd as she couldn’t hold back her excitement and energy.

He loved the outdoors, hiking, fishing, riding four wheelers, dirt bikes, and go-carts. If it had an engine attached he wanted to ride in it. At a very young age he would operate his dad’s equipment as if he had been doing it for years. Up through 2019 Brody lived with his family in Willcox, when they resettled in Pearce. When in Willcox he’d operate his dad’s Mini excavators which were his favorite. He loved all the old tractors his dad would fix.

In 8th grade Brody joined football and found his way on the field. He practiced hard and earned his starting position by making sacks and tackles along the way. As he entered HS Brody played on the JV team his freshman season and continued to improve and excel during each game. His best game was against Willcox. He had so much fun he talked about it the entire ride home. Those moments every parent never forgets that are the true gold in a child’s memory.

People are remembered by their smile, laugh, look, words, or traits. Brody’s specialty was being the champion of solid, warm, genuine hugs. He hugged everyone. It was never just a quick hello or goodbye. His hugs were a full on, two-armed bear hug squeeze. Brody’s hugs were what everyone knew him for. People that didn’t even like hugs, liked them from Brody. His heart was bigger than most, and he wanted everyone to be happy. Brody went out of his way to make people feel better. If he saw someone being mean, he instantly disliked them. He never had an un-kind bone in his body. Brody was perfect in every-way. He was good all the time. He was the kindest person you will ever know, and he wore his feelings on his sleeve.

Brody is missed more than he knows. Those who knew him feel blessed to be touched deeply by his heart and soul.

Brody is survived by his father Justin, his mother Erin, his sister Hailey, his grandad Rick Peters (Annette), his grandpa/grandma Van & Janet Chanay. Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Great-Uncles, Great-Aunts, coaches, teachers, friends, teammates and so many more lives he blessed.

Brody is preceded by his Grandma Jill Peters.
