Helen Phyllis Passons: July 1, 1933 - December 10, 2019
Most everyone called her Phyllis, her closest friends called her Pill.
Phyllis was born in Milan, Michigan. She was Married to David Phillips when she was 17 and had 4 children - Tim, Terry, Leona and Melissa. David died from Polio when the children were young. She remarried Thomas Passons about 5 years later and had one more child Thomas and later adopted two more children, Omar and Miesha.
After her children were mostly grown and settling in San Diego, Phyllis and Tom opened up their home and became foster parents. Together over the next 30+ years they would take over 100 children into their home, some for a short time and some for much longer. Many of the children had special needs or disabilities and some even had critical illnesses. All were always considered her children.
Phyllis and Tom's selfless commitment to the care of the children was visible to anyone who spent time with them. In fact the County of San Diego recognized this commitment when they were selected Foster Parents of the year. In the spare time she did have, she taught Sunday school for the kids with disabilities. She was an avid reader who loved romance novels. She loved playing poker with family. She also loved stealing a sneak drink of dark beer or very good wine.
Phyllis is survived by her sister Betty, her 7 Children, 14 Grand Children, 22 Great-Grand Children and 2 Great-Great Grand Children.
