Joseph Gregory Zach passed away at his home in St. David, Arizona on February 2, 2018. He was born on August 19, 1953 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Ruth Zach. Soon after Joseph’s birth, his parents moved to a small community town at the Jersey Shore, where Joseph grew up. It is here that he first grew to love the sea.
After high school, Joseph attended Randolph Macon College in Virginia and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served overseas in Rota, Spain, during the time in which Spain was under the dictatorship of Franco’s regime. Throughout his career, Joseph held various positions of employment. In his military sector, Joseph served aboard an aircraft carrier and also was a security guard at a nuclear arms facility. Following his military service, Joseph worked in the civilian sector as an interpreter for an international import/export business, as well as a bodyguard, and later companion for a banker/financier for CBS, to name a few.
Joseph was known for his brilliant mind and his love of conversing with others. He was a voracious reader, and enjoyed reading a variety of books such as historical books of interest and science fiction, to mystery novels. He also liked to keep abreast of the latest financial and international news.
Joseph had many hobbies that he enjoyed. Some of his hobbies included photography, anything to do with nature, and collecting gems and coins. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycles and shooting at the ranges.
Some attributes that Joseph is known for are his compassionate nature and generous spirit for those less fortunate. Joseph was especially fond of children, and his beloved cockatoos Peaches and Y2K.
In his later life in St. David, Joseph sought God and strived to live a life through Christ with all whom he knew and met. Joseph’s presence will be sorely missed.
Joseph is survived by his former wife, Gina, his two brothers, Gregory and Jeff, his “Little Sister” Robyn Leigh, and his cockatoo Y2K.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the St. David Chapel on 640 West Patton Street in St. David, Arizona. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson Remembrance Center. Cremains are to be interred at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Service.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be given to the animal shelter in Benson, Arizona. God bless you Joseph. May peace be with you.
