Annie Laurie Montroy, 89, a 46-year resident of Benson, entered eternal life on March 17, 2018, in Benson, AZ. Annie was born on May 8, 1928, in Weisswasser, Germany.
On July 1, 1950, she married Raymond Robert Montroy at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. While residing there with her husband, Annie became a US citizen on June 18, 1952, in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
The military life sent them to many places before they settled down in Benson, AZ in 1972.
Raymond and Annie had two children and were later blessed with two granddaughters whom Annie considered the apple of her eye. Three great-grandchildren were welcomed into the family after Raymond’s passing, but Annie had several years to love and enjoy them.
Annie owned and operated the City Snak Bar and later Anny’s Sandwich Shop in Benson for over 30 years with the help of her daughter, Dee. During this time many friendships were made with those young and old. Many of the young ones often referred to Annie as “mom”.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Raymond on April 8, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Dee Montroy of Benson; a son, Mike (Joan) Montroy of Benson; two granddaughters, Michelle (Justin) Freeark of Greeneville, TN and Tiffany Montroy of Benson; three great-grandchildren, Grant and Jillian Freeark of Greeneville, TN and Case Williams of Benson.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Benson Hospital and TMC Hospice for the care they provided during Annie’s final days.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Richardson’s Remembrance Center, 725 East 4th Street in Benson, AZ. Cremains will be interred with Raymond at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, AZ at a later date.
